Hope?
I had a conversation Friday night, with a co-worker who's real job deals in taxes. We were discussing how this is the best time to buy a house. The low interest rate, low home prices, Federal credit... Well, after the conversation I just couldn't stop thinking about how wonderful it would be to own my own home.
So, I went online and found the cutest little yellow house. Today my friend, her husband and I drove to see it up close and personal... well, as personal as you can get sitting in the passenger seat. It's in need of a paint job, and sometime in the future it'll need new siding... but the neighborhood looks nice and homey, it's near the light rail which is all-important during baseball season. There's a deck in the back yard... it's just all so darn cute!!!! I'm getting way too excited.
I have zero money to put down on this house. And my job doesn't pay me enough for me to be able to swing the mortgage and pay off my credit card bills. I'll need a second job until those are paid off again. Ugh.
Then I have to think about the extra expenses... lawn mowing, snow shoveling, heat, water, garbage, sewer, etc. Can I do it?
Then there's the worry about leaving the house unattended during my vacations. I feel pretty secure in an apartment building, but a house is a bit more vulnerable. Who would I get to house-sit?
It would be great to finally own my own home... but maybe it would be wiser to wait until I'm debt free, or have a higher paying job.
I'm meeting with my realtor friend next week to go over things. Then I can meet with my co-worker/tax dude. I don't want to miss this house, but I need to be smart, and not make hasty decisions.
